"i certainly don't know what he believes in"

I shouldn't take responsiblity for what he says and still I feel deep shame and pain in my heart. God have mercy on us all!

I shouldn't even comment because gosh knows I will be vilified by any republicans - but omg! This is the man running our country and he says stupid stuff like this? Scary.

California Girl, I will not villify you at all. I am trying to figure out the bewilderment you and Stephy have at this comment.

He simply states that no one really knows what Obama stands for and how he plans to achieve his lofty goals. Democrats seem to like him because he makes them feel good but there is no substance behind the rhetoric. If you really look at what he says he wants to do and think of how he will have to fund it, we are looking at socialism and higher taxes. He is more left than Hillary.

Not everyone that speaks the way Bush does is dumb and not everyone that speaks as eloquently as Barack is smart. In fact, Barack says nothing better than anyone.

I have not always agreed with Bush but hating him because of his manner of speaking is as wrong liking Obama because he speaks well...or HIllary because she.....I'm not sure why she is qualified.

Bill Clinton is a great politician and orator but was lousy, imho, and stained (maybe even literally) the office of the presidency (due to a complete lack of any moral compass) more than probably any other president.

So, no villifying (even though that is what you're doing to Bush) here. And you don't graduate from Yale and the Harvard Business School if you're dumb. Eloquence just isn't part of the curriculum, I guess.

Okay, my blog is no forum for people to be defending Bush and if I get any more comments defending him I will be dealing with them quickly, and with severity. haha. (i.e., deleting them. I am politically socialist but my blog is fascist.)

Along with several things I feel, I'm really super embarrassed that GWB said that he doesn't know what Obama stands for, and then he said the thing about Obama planning to attak Iran. I mean, WTF?? Super false and humiliating for our president to be saying that!

I am ashamed to be from the same state as him. I'm embarrassed I even ran in the same 10-K with him when he was governor. Just looking at his face makes me want to cry.

You can absolutely graduate from any school if your parents have high enough political power. It shouldn't be that way, but then you should also not be allowed to attack a country who has done nothing wrong to you.

Further left than Hillary? That is an EXCELLENT reason to vote for him.

People don't think Bush is stupid just because of what he says and how he says it. People think he's an idiot because he's ruined this country's economy, the U.S.'s reputation, the world's goodwill toward us, and large portions of the Middle East (among other things) into the ground (not to mention causing countless deaths of people from both the U.S. and Middle East), consistently ignoring the people who are trying to point out his errors.

Whatever his failings, Bill Clinton left this country in great shape. GWB will undoubtedly go down in history as the U.S.'s worst president. It will take decades to heal the wounds he has inflicted on the world, and it breaks my heart that it's my children's generation (and their children's) that will suffer and have to try to make things right.

It's an excellent reason to vote for OBAMA, I mean. (Sorry. My Obama and GWB comments ran together. I want to be clear who I meant here . . .)

Shari, I have no confidence that Stephy will post this response. She chose not to post my reply to her last comment, even after I gave her a great chocolate cake recipe. But I will try anyway, since you took the time to comment on my first response.

“Further left than Hillary? That is an EXCELLENT reason to vote for him.”

Shari, I knew to whom you were referring. Besides, Bush isn’t running.

But Shari, if you want socialism, may I suggest Canada (it’s closer than Europe and you can sneak back across the border to get health care like millions of Canadians do because of their ‘government run’ health care system can’t keep up). Fortunately for us, the pilgrims realized in short order that socialism (although they were calling it collectivism) did not work and went to a capitalist economy.

The original contract the Pilgrims had entered into with their merchant-sponsors in London called for everything they produced to go into a common store, and each member of the community was entitled to one common share. All of the land they cleared and the houses they built belong to the community as well.

They were going to distribute it equally. Nobody owned anything. They just had a share in it. It was a commune. It was the forerunner to the communes we saw in the '60s and '70s out in California – and it was complete with organic vegetables, by the way.

William Bradford, who had become the new governor of the colony, recognized that this form of collectivism was as costly and destructive to the Pilgrims as that first harsh winter, which had taken so many lives. He decided to take bold action. Bradford assigned a plot of land to each family to work and manage, thus turning loose the power of the marketplace.

There you go. Long before Karl Marx was even born, the Pilgrims had discovered and experimented with socialism. And what happened? It didn't work! Surprise, surprise, huh? What Bradford and his community found was that the most creative and industrious people had no incentive to work any harder than anyone else, unless they could utilize the power of personal motivation!

But while most of the rest of the world has been experimenting with socialism for well over a hundred years – trying to refine it, perfect it, and re-invent it – the Pilgrims decided early on to scrap it permanently. What Bradford wrote about this social experiment should be in every schoolchild's history lesson. If it were, we might prevent much needless suffering in the future.

"The experience that we had in this common course and condition, tried sundry years...that by taking away property, and bringing community into a common wealth, would make them happy and flourishing – as if they were wiser than God," Bradford wrote. "For this community [so far as it was] was found to breed much confusion and discontent, and retard much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort. For young men that were most able and fit for labor and service did repine that they should spend their time and strength to work for other men's wives and children without any recompense...that was thought injustice."

Do you hear what he was saying? The Pilgrims found that people could not be expected to do their best work without incentive. So what did Bradford's community try next? They unharnessed the power of good old free enterprise by invoking the capitalistic principle of private property. Every family was assigned its own plot of land to work and permitted to market its own crops and products. And what was the result?

"This had very good success," wrote Bradford, "for it made all hands industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been."

There’s a reason that this country has grown, in less than 300 years, to over 300 million people and is the most prosperous and generous country in the history of the world. And it isn’t socialism. It’s freedom…and socialism takes freedom away.

“People don't think Bush is stupid just because of what he says and how he says it.

It will take decades to heal the wounds he has inflicted on the world, and it breaks my heart that it's my children's generation (and their children's) that will suffer and have to try to make things right.”

I’m not sure who taught your generation economics. This economy is stronger than it ever was under Clinton (by every measure that is used by the experts). Bush inherited a recession and since 9/11 we have had 24 quarters of positive economic growth. We are not in a recession. A recession is defined as two consecutive quarters of declining GDP. We have had 24 quarters in a row of positive GDP growth. Sure, there are things in the economy that are on a down-cycle. My house is down almost $200,000 in value in the last three years but I am not crying about it. I know it will rebound. It always does! And the cycles in our economy are less severe when the government stays out.

Let’s address ‘goodwill’. If we have lost the ‘world’s goodwill’ then why is America the number 1 choice for people to come and live? Why are we the first people in the world that are looked to when there is a disaster? Frankly, Shari, I don’t (neither should anyone else) care whether a bunch of socialists in Europe or anywhere else like us. I can’t imagine going through life worried about what everyone thinks about me. I don’t rely on the opinions of others for my self worth.

And I doubt that GWB will go down as the worst president. Jimmy Carter already has that distinction. All of you liberals thought that Reagan would be given that moniker too and look at where history has judged him…as one of the best!

You people do not like Bush. That’s okay. But you can never say why that is. Or, if you do it’s some talking point post that brings out the same old inaccuracies time and time again. GWB has not ruined the world.

I don’t like everything he has done. But he has recognized that we are in a fight for our civilization and instead of doing little to nothing about it (like WJC) he has chosen to face it head on. He is confronting evil (or whatever you wish to call it) and is allowing you to raise you kids with the freedoms you have.

And if my children, and theirs, have to continue the fight then that is okay with me. The stakes are worth it. I’ve been over in that area of the world many times. We did not cause, nor make worse, the mess that the Middle East is experiencing. It has always been in turmoil. And it’s the same people that are fomenting it. And the people we are fighting are not going to stop until they win or are decisively defeated.

I welcome discussion and debate with intelligent, passionate people. I know we’ll agree on little but I learn something from every exchange. And if you come to http://thedirtymartini.blogspot.com then you can vent on me and get a free martini recipe on most of my posts. I look forward to seeing you there.

A-6 Dude, I am officially creeped out by you. You have no respect for what I have stated my blog is for and you are being manipulative when you say I "chose not to post your last response even after you gave me a great chocolate cake recipe." You have your own blog, leave your political thoughts there please and do not post at mine anymore.

You know, Stephy, I didn’t get ‘officially creeped out’ when you left a comment on my site. I welcomed it because I enjoy discussing differing points of view. And I don’t get offended when someone disagrees. What a boring world it would be if everyone agreed. I wish you the best in life.

That was another manipulative statement by you, A-6 dude. You're trying to shame me for feeling creeped out by you. I like to talk about anything in person. Internet debating doesn't have the element of interpersonal focus and active listening. It's never okay to shame people for their gut feelings.

It's April 2011 and I'm reading old and historically interesting posts. In this post-GFC world, I wonder if the "martini making, cigar smoking, conservative student of life and very PRO-AMERICAN!" Ayn Randian A-6Dude has modified his ideology and dogma somewhat since socialism reigned supreme when the banks were bailed out. No chance to post on his site as it looks like cobwebs since Oct 08.

@snowy gurl, you may knock away the cobwebs and leave a comment for me on any of my blog posts. Although I no longer post blogs I still get and reply to comments on my site. So I will gladly respond to your post on my site but out of respect for Stepy's wishes I will not leave any political comments here.
