mankind's best chocolate cake

On Saturday I made a cake that was the most magical cake in the world. It's gone now but we can make more. Recipe is here.

Stephy,

I am Renee Peterson's uncle. She told me about your site a couple of months ago and I have enjoyed your writing.

After reading the recipe for this one I wanted to share a recipe that my mom made for me every birthday as a kid. My wife now does it for me after much persuasion. I believe you will change your mind on what is "mankind's best chocolate cake" after trying this one. It is all from scratch.

The Milky Way Cake

2 1/2 cups sifted flour
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 1/4 cups Buttermilk
1 cup of chopped pecans (optional)
8 milky way candy bars
1 tsp vanilla
2 sticks of butter
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda

Over low heat, melt 1 stick of butter and the 8 milky way bars. Set aside and cool.

Cream the other stick of butter and sugar, add eggs, then add each of the remaining ingredients one at a time with a little bit of buttermilk between each addition.

Once it is all mixed together add the melted mixture and the nuts (if you're using them) and mix.

Butter 3 x 8" cake pans and fill each pan.

Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees, or until done. Set aside to cool.

The Frosting
1/2 cup softened butter
3 oz melted unsweetened chocolate
3 cups powdered sugar
2 tsp vanilla
3 tablespoons of milk or condensed milk

Mix butter and chocolate together. Stir in powdered sugar. Beat in vanilla and milk until frosting is of spreading consistency.

Prepare to have your taste buds experience Nirvana.

And, martinis are a passion of mine. Here is a dessert martini that will have you wondering why you ever drank anything else.

The German Chocolate Caketini
2 parts Godiva Chocolate Liqueur
1 part coconut vodka
1 part mocha caramel cream
splash of Frangelico

Shake over ice until very cold and pour into a COLD martini glass till about 1/2" from the rim.

Then, float the following over the top with a spoon and sprinkle with coconut.

3 parts heavy cream
1 part chocolate syrup

Hope you enjoy! Invite Renee over for a piece.
