I know very well that by general consensus Jessica Simpson sucks and she's cheesy and says dumb things, but maybe that's why I like her. She seems like someone I'd hang out with back home, and she's a southern preacher's kid like me. Ergo, I like her and everyone makes fun of me. And that's okay. I'm going to add some fuel to your fire by showing you my new earrings I got that are Jessica Simpson brand and they're gigantic like Texas. Don't be too jealous.

You're an idiot...ahhh, it's too easy. It's not even fun anymore.
I don't feel ashamed of the things I truly like anymore, I spent so much effort hating things I was embarrassed of liking in college and in my 20s. Now it's a quality I love in other people, when they own what they truly like even if it isn't cool. I hope I can really be even more vulnerable like that someday.
Next time we chat, I'm going to attempt to ruin Jessica Simpson for you. I think I can do it in under 2 minutes.
Please try.
Yeah, it is a real stepping stone to own what you love even if it's widely admonished. It was hard for me to stay the course with Foo Fighters and Green Day, but I wouldn't let any of my cool friends beat me down. Liking those bands wasn't even ironic enough to flip and be cool. Still, I remained un-phased in my adoration until the sincerely disgusted me in their latest incarnations. At least I've always been sincere, but yeah, there is that moment where you debate whether or not to admit something. Fuck it, I say!
